Maybe we should have hired a guide to appreciate this complex a bit more. Had to take all the information from the Lonely Planet. It would have been really good to have some basic information displays at each of the sights, mgicing a bit of information. Unfortunately the theatre was covered over due to plays taking place. More

Let me preface this by saying that after visiting Valle dei Templi in Agrigento, my expectations for Greco-Roman ruins in Sicily were set very high. I traveled to Siracusa from Catania because it was listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site locations in Sicily, so I had high expectations of Zona Archeologica. At the ticket office, when paying... More

There just wasn't that much to see. The authorities were readying the theater for live summer performances, so the hammers, electric saw, dry-wall boards just didn't enhance the feeling that you were standing in the ruins of a great theater of the most powerful city in Sicily. Much of the cave area was closed, for reasons unknown. More

Theatre was most impressive. Roman amphitheatre less so but still worth seeing. The ancient quarries (with the so-called Ear of Dionysius) were attractive with groves of orange and lemon trees, palms and bamboos. More

The Greek theatre is very nice, and we were fortunate to have visited it on a day with only a few other tourists around. The Garden of Paradise is actually & unexpectedly quite nice. More

A nice area to tour to see Greek theatre, quarries, Roman amphitheatre but not as large as it seems on the map. We walked to the site from our hotel near the bridge to Ortigia; it was about a 20 minute walk. More

The difficulty with this venue starts with the ticket office which isn't located at the main gate but some 150 - 200 metres away across a very busy road opposite the main gate. In fact it is quite well hidden behind a raft of souvenir stalls in the bus parking area. We could see only one small not very well... More
