We took the train from Nunziata as this was where our villa was. If you have a hire car and plan to drive to the train station this is a good station to park at. It is free and the next station from Gierre. The trip was lovely, nice views. We took the trip for about 1 hour which is... more

We set off from Taormina by first taking the bus down to the railway station and then the train to Catania. The trains on this side of the island are modern, fast and a very smooth ride. My wife and I took the Circumetnea Railway, as recommended by both the Eyewitness Guide (published by Dorling Kindersley) and the Rough Guide. We were both disappointed. Granted, we went on a rainy, foggy day so we didn't see Mt. Etna at all. That was disappointing, but understandable. But when we were there (October 2005), the train did not run... more
