- Buzios_PWHayling Island, United Kingdom90 contributionsWonderful Historic PiazzaMuch of the history of Florence resides in this square and it is wonderful to just walk around and soak it all up. The replica of Michelangelos David stands in its original position in the square (the original now protected in the Accademia). Lots to see here - do not miss it.Visited March 2023Written 22 March 2023
- V8496QVsarahaColchester, United Kingdom107 contributionsAnniversary BreakLovely place, can get quite busy with groups visiting Uffizi museum as it’s adjacent to it. So would think it’s heaving during the summer. Great place to people watch and have an Aperol Spritzer or a bite to eat. Do remember you pay a little more being there than a restaurant away from it. Worth a visit plus you get to see David!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 March 2023
- lscaldwell119 contributionsThe Best PiazzaWe loved walking to this Piazza each day and sitting outside at Bar Perseo for wine and people watching. This Piazza has a lot of beautiful statues and leather vendors. Lots of shops down each of the streets. I would recommend all of it. CheersVisited May 2022Written 3 April 2023
- perrypickerign108 contributionsIt's Hip to be in the SquareThe Plazza Della Signoria is centrally located next to numerous good dining options and shops. The square hosts concerts and is surrounded by art and 1000 year old buildings. The Academy and Uffizi are very close to the square. The square is where everything is happening. It is also close to the Florence Duomo Cathedral.Visited March 2023Written 4 April 2023
- NoraatcSudbury, Massachusetts35,558 contributionsPiazza della Signoria at Christmas timeI have been to Pizza Signoria more times I can count but never in the winter. This time I had a chance to admire it in the rain, which made it look so solemn, Seeng it l festively adorned adorned for Christmas was even more impressive, I loved the glittering multicolor lights projected to the austere facade of Palazzo Vecchio. Unfortunately, the iconic equestrian statue of Cosimo I de' Medici was in scaffolding but I have seen it before of course. Loggia dei Lanzi with its wonderful Renaissance statues and the copy of “Judith and Holofernes” by Donatello looked surprisingly tranquil in the rain and wasn’t busy at all. Good to travel without summer crowds!Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 5 April 2023
- Sarah LLondon, United Kingdom3,054 contributionsWonderful squareI loved this place! The statues are amazing and you have to visit just to see the famous replica of David. Across the square is the amazing Loggia dei Lanzi with many sculptures. The sculpture of Neptune is amazing and the square itself has soo much to see and do. Definitely worth a stroll through!Visited April 2023Written 12 April 2023
- AK8397Ontario, Canada885 contributionsLovely and Lively! This is a very historic and interesting square. It links a variety of important buildings, like the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Vecchio, and features the famous Neptune Fountain. There are restaurants, vendors and lots of tourists, making this piazza a very lively place. But what I really loved are the large number of statues that decorate the square, including a replica of Michelangelo's David. So much fun to wander around looking at everything and watching the people. If you do get tired of that, there are plenty of nearby shops for browsing too.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 June 2023
- Jonas AStockholm, Sweden959 contributionsView the famous sculptures of Florence for freeHere you can view replicas of a number of famous sculptures, outdoors and for free. This is an option if you didn’t book a museum ticket weeks in advance, don’t want to spend hours in line or haven’t got the time, money or energy to be walking around in museums. This doesn’t mean the Signora square is not crowded, on the contrary. But it also depends on the time of day as with most things in Florence.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 July 2023
- George SMiami Beach, Florida1,107 contributionsHistoric squareA square steeped in history in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia die Lanza and near the Uffizi Gallery. Plenty of crowds anytime during the day and night. There is a beautiful Fountain of Neptune (Florence’s version of the Trevi fountain) in the square and looks very impressive lit up at night.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 July 2023
- Colleen KUpper Ballinderry, United Kingdom96 contributionsMagnificent outdoor museumMagnificent outdoor sculptures in the Piazza itself which are free to wander through. Replica Statue of David is here if you haven't time to see the real thing in the Galleria dell'Academia. Impressive backdrop of the Palazzo Vecchio here too.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2023

As the political heart of the Florentine Republic since the 14th century, Piazza della Signoria has been at the epicentre of many significant events in the city's history, from ceremonial events to festivals and rallies. After all, this square was the scene of the historic Bonfire of the Vanities instigated by the preacher Savonarola, who was then executed and burnt here in 1498 after he was denounced by Pope Alexander VI as a heretic. Several iconic Florence attractions made their homes right here at the square, including the Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia dei Lanzi, Neptune Fountain, replica statue of Michelangelo's "David", and Italy's top art museum, the Uffizi Gallery. With such a rich concentration of Florence's famous attractions, you can almost be guaranteed that this piazza will be constantly lively and buzzing with crowds. It is also relatively close to the riverside and the renowned Ponte Vecchio bridge, as well as conveniently linked to Piazza del Duomo through the shopping street, Via dei Calzaiuoli.

I mean it's another square aka a "piazza", this time it's the square of the lady!
And what a beautiful place it is, with stunning buildings, a buzzing atmosphere and a LOT of people walking and cycling in every possible direction. You are also close to many of the wonderful bars and eateries of Florence here, including the fabulous sandwich bars serving "schiacciata" - try this, trust me, you will never want to just have boring, plain bread again!
Again, as a useful tip, if you want to avoid crowds, I would recommend either coming outside of peak season (Jun-Sept) or first thing early in the morning when you can still enjoy the architecture and vibe of this area.

Really a lovely square to visit with several cafes to watch the world go by. It is also the location of the Palazzo Vecchio, the home of the Medici family and now the Town Hall

Lively square. A lot of groups meet here to start their tours. Sit, eat, drink and watch the world. Most people come the Neptune's' fountain but we thought it could do with more water

Fabulous place to visit with its unique architecture and historical relevance. The place you see on many postcards and featured many times on tv, it is really worth taking in the awe and wonder for yourself. Included are famous sculptures such as David by Michaelangelo (which is actually a copy - the original is based at the Accademia). Nevertheless, they are amazing to see. Well worth a visit.

One of my favorite early morning or. late afternoon strolls to view the statues in the Loggia. Free art and history in the heart of Firenze! I highly suggest any of the many self-guided audio or booklet tours to assist the viewers.
Truly stepping in history when you are here at the heart of the Florentine Republic!

The view across the piazza to the Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia, with the statuary in front of the first and within the second, is magnificent. It's overcrowded, like most of Florence, but it's very impressive. Not to be missed!

Is the snorkeling good here?
BradJill
Hong Kong, China159,778 contributions
No the snorkelling is rubbish due to the high number of statues, loggias and palace buildings getting in the way. The complete lack of water beyond that of the basin of the Fountain of Neptune would also be a problem for would be snorkelers.

Hello 86onate,
Note that this is not a hotel but a listing for the public square in Florence by the name of Piazza dells Signoria. If you still need help with your visit to the city, I would suggest visiting the TripAdvisor Florence forum and asking the experts and regular visitors who volunteer time to help fellow travellers researching trips. This would be the best place to ask questions in regard to trips to Florence.
