Awesome to get up and above the city. A nice uphill walk. Such a serene and peaceful place (as you'd expect). Walk through the little gravesites, listen to the monks chant, and look at all the amazing details in the architecture. More

I'm not going to lie, we wandered over here after trying to view the sunset from Piazza Michelangelo and looking for the WC. This church is situated at a higher point than the piazza with far fewer people. Large grounds mean lots of peace and quiet and stunning views of Florence and the Duomo. By the time we got there... wow, that's my first word as I enter this rather dark church. Being able to see the frescos, the decoration of the roof timber, was great. And also I was amazed how well it is preserved, even so many wars and conflicts. I was told that because it was (and is) a holy place, people respected it through centuries. More

Even if there are tourists about this is a great place to get away from the crowds and see the whole city spread out before you. Wait until late afternoon and you can have the whole place to yourself! More

The basilica is just a short walk uphill from the the crowded, touristy parking lot that is Piazzale Michelangelo, but it is a world away! Quiet and peaceful with stunning views, a charming and beautiful church and the monks chanting at Vespers. What more could you want? More

If you look on the left before you enter the church you will see a small Pharmacy run by the monks there. It reminded me of Cadfael movies. More
