The Medici Chapels (Cappelle Medicee) form part of a monumental complex flanking the Basilica of San Lorenzo designed by Brunelleschi for the Medici family in the 1400s. It was built as extensions to the basilica. It became the family church first and mausoleum later when Michelangelo began work on the New Sacristy (Sagrestia Nuova) upon request of Cardinal Giulio de'... More

The Capelle Medicee is definitely worth a visit, but be prepared for frustration and bring a guidebook. Not only is there significant [and much-needed] renovation going on, but there is virtually no signage of worth to explain what you are seeing or even where the different rooms are. Having said this, though, the Chapels are one of the Jewels of... More

Your jaw will drop when you enter the "chapel of the princes" and see the extent of the Medici ego. Over the top. Michelangelo's New Sacristy is one of the city's jewels More

This is a beautiful chapel and walking through the main floor was nice, when you get into the chapel on the 1st floor it's full of scaffolding and it's definitely not worth the money to see it. Today is Feb 9, 2012 More

The medici Chapels you can visit here were added by the Medici once they were the Lords of Florence, and not only the de facto rulers, when they built the ''Old sacristy''. Here the Medici family pulled all stops, and asked Michelangelo to stop working in Rome and make his best to leave an immortal testimony of the Greatness of... More

The Medici Chapel is sparce and few items to look at. If you go it is pretty, however get a guide book to read what you are looking at and the history of the chapel since there is nothing inside to tell you. More

This is a beautiful chapel, smaller than most we visited and easy to get around. There is a room with several tomb carvings by Michelangelo that are well worth going to see. More

Worth the price of admission, but needs some patience to understand the payback. Entrance is into the understated crypt of the Medici family and the burial place of many of the dictators, patrons, and Godfather's of the Renaissance. Ascend the stairs to the beautiful chapel, despite the rennovation in progress which obscures and detracts from the viewing. The design and... More
