Went to Galleria dell'Accademia with a tour guide. Was worth booking to avoid long queue waiting to get in. The highlight of the gallery is obviously the David statue - incredible. How did Michelangelo Buonarroti sculpt this statue freehand? You must see this gallery! more

Glad we booked as there was a huge queue waiting to buy tickets. Good selection of art although it was rather busy with other tourists so I can't image how bad it must be in the height of the season. more

Michelangelo's David is amazing and worth the ticket price. But, this is a very small museum with not much else to see. There is an interesting musical instrument section (don't touch the harpsichord, I was scolded!) and a room full of plaster first-drafts used to make marble sculptures. The only real reason to visit Accademia is to see the statue of David. There are a few other exhibits to see, but the main attraction is David. Because of this, get reservations; otherwise, you could be stuck in a line for 3 hours or more to primarily see one statue. more
