May 2011 we visited Lucca. A wonderful place in toscane . This church has a beautiful madonna outside , so visit it whenever you are there.

Its location and appearance makes it look as if it might be the cathedral, but it is one of some 80 churches in Lucca which is most noticeable for its baroque facade which was raised above the roof height in anticipation of the church's enlargement... which never happened.

I did not enter, but was fascinated by the exterior, and even by the wall next to the church with its multiple layered arches. I'd have entered if I had more time, but was trying to hit all parts of the photo fest that was going on.

Chiesa di San Michele in Foro was built around the 8C. Open 7.40 – 12 and 3- 6 There is no charge but donations are appreciated to maintain the magnificence of this building for all to see. It is built on the site of the old Roman forum. It sits on a large apron of the Piazza San Michele. There...
