Visit the Cathedrale di San Martino for the architecture and the interior. However, be aware that the church at present is undergoing a restoration project so not all features (artwork) are fully visible. This is where you find the shrine to Volto Santo and the tomb of Ilaria dell Carretto. It's worth the admission to the tomb. Very close by... More

I had the distinct pleasure of attending Chef Paolo's Cooking School for a week. It was fabulous! The instruction, presentation and consumption were beyond my expectations. The classes were limited to four or five students and were suitable for all levels of cooking experience. Chef Paolo is very knowledgeable and a passionate instructor of his art. He made an effort... The cathedral is undergoing a lot of conservation work (April '12) which spoils the visit and obviously attracts lots of school parties (ditto), but the museum next door is really worth a visit. Beautifully modern in it's presentation and building (interior) design. One can't help but laugh at the English commentry - where did they find him! More

Currently undergoing very extensive internal restoration, Lucca's cathedral is notable, externally, for its baroque facade which, inter alia, features a charming frieze depicting the 12 months of the year from a farmer's point of view and, internally, for its chapel housing the Volto Santo, an extraordinary crucifix laced with legend, which used to be carried at the head of the...
