The place is in a remote area outside Asssi, completely surrounded by a forest. It is a very peaceful place where it is really nice to stay. More

Cool forest; great view of the valley; very peaceful when you can avoid the rowdy Swiss school kids. More

As chaplainsRus has said, this is a magical place, largely undiscovered by tourists. If you have the time, walk the four or so kilometers up from the town of Assisi. It is a lovely walk up a steady incline, through olive groves. You follow a road the whole way, but there is a good footpath most of the way, and... More

Go very early to this magical place that many tourists seem not to have discovered...thank God. Walk in the woods around the hermitage, enjoy the cool breeze and the birdsong and the views and get a rare but wonderful glimpse into the real world of St Francis before he was discovered by tourist machine. An absolute must for anyone visiting... More

Follow the signs out of town. About 5 miles East. You can walk from town but we took our car. St Francis' cell was surprisingly small. Quite something to actually be here. The stone buildings comprising the hermitage are rustic but really bring to mind the life of the saint and his followers. More

if people try to be more silent. It seems that very few visitors respect the "silence" signs places along the trail. In contrast with San Francisco Basilica, it is difficult to see or to feel something when visiting this originally spiritual mistic place. More

Visit the hermitage where Saint Francis found a secluded place for meditation and spiritual renewal. It is worth the hike up the mountain. One can also easily hail a taxi from the city center. Some of our group took a taxi up and walked back down. If you're feeling hale and hearty, I recommend walking both ways. More
