Not the common museum. Easy to look around, nice setting and diplays. Nice location on Munster Platz, near the overlook of the Rhein River. More

Having recently returned from Cental America we were looking forward to seeing the carved wooden lintels from Tikal. Sadly only one of the four owned by the museum was on display, a beautiful and amazing survival of Mayan civilisation. Museum der Kulturen needed an addition and selected Herzog & de Meuron to design it. Instead of extending the building into a historical courtyard (just of the Münsterplatz), the architects decided to build up and added an extravagant roof clad in dark green ceramic tiles (concave, convex and flat).
