This has been, so far, our favorite of the "altstadts" on our trip to Switzerland, Austria, Germany. Beautiful centuries old buildings and many km of cobbled streets with a turquoise river running through it. Fun shops, but as in all of Switzerland, expensive for Americans. More

The old city has many gorgeous sights and is totally worth a few hours of strolling around. Even better, this is a walk you can take in any kind of weather as the city is filled with covered sidewalks in an old fashioned arcade style. Definitely see the clock tower, the bundeshaus, and the Munster More

This town with it's wonderful historic buildings and street is one of the under rated gems of Switzerland. Streets and roads are made up of cobble stones, with medieval stone building lining up the streets. It is like stepping back towards the olden time. Walk pass the river and you'll reach a breath-taking view of the river and the valley.... More

Walking in the old cobble stone streets of Bern is lovely. It is close to the train station and the best way to see it is by walking. The covered sidewalks were very busy because it was raining. We decided to rather walk in the street. We did get wet but we could see more of the beautiful buildings and... More

This historic town area will definitely fascinate you with lots of aspects. You could walk around, eat in & out, lovely shops for something you might wanna bring back with you. Oh, and cozy bars are also available for the nightcap at the end of the day. More

with a thoroughly modern feel. Bern Old Town is very much a living urban environment, without the museum feel that some Old Towns have. It's a great place to be a pedestrian, but watch out for the trams that are often the only traffic on the cobble-stone streets. You can see all of Old Town in a day, if you... More
