There is an archeaological dig going on beneath St. Peter's cathedral which you can also tour. The price to get in includes a headset which will explain different portions of the ruins in your native language. We went to see this site after visiting the Masion Tavel, which was free and very interesting. This building no longer functions as a church, so none of the items that make a church beautiful are there. Yes, there is stained glass and vaulted ceilings, but that's about it. No beautiful marble or tile work. It may be historically interesting... more

This is a pretty cathedral located in the old town near to lots of other attractions. I would not go out of my way to visit unless you enjoy history, but if you are in the area it would be a shame not to drop by. It can be surprisingly difficult to find when walking, as you keep seeing it... more

During my visit of Geneva in April 2009, I also visited Cathedrale de St-Pierre. I wasn’t amazed by the church. It is smaller than I imagine. Also the architecture didn’t impress me much. Anyone with a passing interest in history would enjoy a visit here, if only to see Calvin's Chair where Jean Calvin (allegedly)preached his sermons from. This attraction dovetails nicely with a visit to the Reformation Wall nearby. The climb to the tower is a must, but it is not for claustrophobics. The cathedral, along with the entire old part of the city is on a hill in central Geneva. The cathedral is no greater or more beautiful than most cathedrals you'd find elsewhere in Europe, but it's cool (for me anyway) to stand where John Calvin stood and imagine the debates that were held there.
