We stayed in Lucerne then took a trip to Mount Pilatus. In Lucerne we boarded the boat to Alpnachstad and took steepest cogwheel train which takes you up to Mount Pilatus. The scenery was amazing... We stayed in Zurich and took the train to Lucern and visited Mt. Pilatus August, 2009. Easy to get around. The Swiss have excellent bus and trains. The weather was perfect and the views were spectacular. Lunch at the top was bonus. We took the cog railway down. All in all it was a relaxing wondering day. Don't miss this... more

Check the weather before you go otherwise you may be a bit dissapointed once you get to the top. I suggest taking the train up into the mountain because if you take the gondula you can't come back down that same way. Also, like everything else in Switzerland it's expensive. The cogwheel train is interesting and there are some great views (sit on the side near the door), but the real views for me where from the gondola. Mount Pilatus itself was nice, but it was very cloudy. Try to go on a clear day when you'll be able to see the views. more

Enjoyed the scenic railway ride up the steep mountainside overlooking Lake Lucerne. Breathtaking views at the summit. Enjoyed a wonderful apple streudel and coffee at one of the restaurants. We caught the boat from the Lido Jetty and 1Hour 20 min arrived at Alperschat and caught the Cog wheel train up Awesome.For cost efficiency book a night stay at the hotel at the top of pilatus. This IS A MUST . more

It's sort of a pain to get all the way up to Mount Pilatus, but it couldn't be more worth it. From the train station in town, you take a bus to the outskirts, then walk about ten minutes, then take two cable cars up to the mountain. The first cable car ride is so cool! It moves slowly enough... more
