Pepe of Magic Switzerland provided me and my husband the most wonderful time in a hotel overlooking the Matterhorn. For anyone contemplating some time in the alps walking I recommend Zermatt. So well set up with cable cars trains etc you have a choice of hundreds of walks - and they are well sign posted too.
Nothing like a beer and apple strudel under the matterhorn after a walk on a clear day!

This little cog train takes you, up, up, up as close as you are going to get to the Matterhorn without climbing or skiing. Fantastic vistas are everywhere and, if you want to hike, you can get off the train along the way and get back on again. Runs very often so you can pretty much go when you want....
