Generally, Maastricht City is a historical and cultural city of the region. The caves are just one of the great wonders in Limburg, the people are very friendly. I actually spent a year here and you need to be there between February and March and witness the Carnival week. This is one of the passionately celebrated celemonies here.

The caves are special but the service for translating little information in English or German language seemed to be inpossible. That's why we regret the visit.

I went to the caves (in fact they are mines and not natural caves) frequently with a private guide from the local tourist office when I was a student in Maastricht. These visits were magical.
Recently I visted the caves a part of an organised boat tour. This visit was less exciting as the previous ones as it was more...

We went to the velvet caves and enjoyed it. We also went on the train into the caves and saw lots of charcoal drawings. Please make time to go to the castle ruins which are above the velvet caves. I enjoyed that even more as i expected rapunzel to let down her hair.
There is a lovely atmosphere in the...

On my visit to Maastricht, our intentions were to enjoy the yearly food fest, Preneuvemint (it was meh), but this was also on the list of things to do. I did not have high expectations. I've seen "caves" before. Man, was I surprised. If you're in the area, you must check these out.
These aren't caves in the regular sense....

I really enjoyed this tour, I was blown away by the vastness of the caves. We took an English tour, which was very interesting. The guide had done some studies of the caves and you could tell that he was passionate about the subject. The only thing I would do differently if I went again, would be to take a...

I liked the caves, specially that it was raining and inside is same temperature all the time. The guide spoke only Dutch but was very helpfull and explained history of the caves cracking jokes at each stop. It is a unique experiance to find yourself standing under a cementary. The natural history sculptures and the oldest part in use from...

Very disappointed in the quality of the Christmas market vendors in the caves. We waited 20 minutes in line to get into the cave doors (after spending around 3 Euro's to get in) only to find the vendors were selling very cheap items, most unrelated to the holiday (African and Asia trinkets, retail sweaters/scarves, etc.) We found 1-item that was...

The history of the caves is wonderful and it was good to have seen them - however I would not bust a gut to go and see them again. The Christmas market within the caves is something of nothing - an awful lot of tat being sold to the tourists, personally I wouldn't do it again as there is not...
