The title of the review may be a bit ambiguous but I liked the square. One earlier review suggested it was just a large square where people mingle - I'm not sure what else a square should be. I love the frenzy pace of the place and the people watching was worth the time getting there. The young, the derelict... more

Dam Square is home to the National Monument and is a historical center for the city of Amsterdam. The monument may not be the most exciting National monument you will ever see, but the square and its surronding buildings hold small historical plaques and clues of it's past! Amsterdam is a historical Labyrinth that centers at Dam Square, it is... more

The first day we were in Dam Square there had been some sort of bike race which had finished there, a tent was set up, trash was everywhere, and it all just had the look of a sad state of affairs. As this was our first day in Amsterdam, we shocked and disappointed to see this square and the surrounding... more

Not quite on a par with St Mark's square in Venice, but nonetheless, a very nice place to meet up with people or stop off for a drink and watch the world go by. It is overlooked by the Royal Palace which dominates the square along with Madame Tussards - not sure what this building used to be, but sadly... more

There is some monument statue thing on one end and I think the building is suppose to be of some significance but you honestly can't really see or tell with all the junk going... more

I was a little disappointed in DAM square. It's just a big square where people hang out. There are so many other things to do in the city. You'll surely pass through the square on your way to one of the many wonderful things to do in Amsterdam! more

There is always something happening in Dam Square. Mimes, protests and people watching are just a few of the things. more

Dam square has many attractions and is a very busy square. We preferred to use it as a hub to all the places we wished to visit. Almost all main streets lead to it so most things are easy to find from it. Just across road, Paleiddtraat 125, their is a shop called De Bierkoning with 950 different types of... more

I've just returned from a 3 day break to amsterdam and am counting down the weeks and days until my next visit! i was a little optomistic about going to amsterdam after all the stories i heard about the red light area and drug pushers ect... but i have to say this was the most diverse, but laid back place... more
