Poor old Vincent - if he'd seen how much money was being raked in using his name now, he'd probably have sliced his other ear off. Seriously though, the museum does a tremendous job in laying bare the psychological trauma Vincent endured as he wrestled with his inner demons - was he a good artist or not? Did his contemporaries... more

This should be on your must see list in Amsterdam. It gives you a excellent felling of who Van Gogh was and what he did in such a short period of time more

thanks to rick steve's guidebook, i went on friday night when it was less crowded, and when there was an area set up for live entertainment and to have wine, beer, soda, and cheese. it was just neat to do that in a museum. could have been more chairs set up (there was room) and there could have been more... more

Until January 24th, 2010, not only will you have the opportunity of seeing the works of Van Gogh, but also those of the brilliant Belgian artist Alfred Stevens, who spent most of his working life in Paris. His attention to detail has to be seen to be believed. I consider myself privileged to have been in this wonderful museum. more

A wonderful collection of Van Gogh's works. It was very enjoyable and educational to see his progression from dark, dreary works of Holland to his progression into using different colors, brush strokes, and painting styles as he progressed as an artist and as he traveled and learned from other artists. It was an 8 hour flight from Chicago, and I... more

The Van Gogh Museum is located in a nice park like setting, with other museums near by. It is easily arrived at by tram. The museum is very modern and has a lift for those unable to climb stairs. An audio program can be obtained, that allows you to progress at your own speed. The exhibits of artists other that... more

Let me preface my comments by saying that I am not a big fan of Van Gogh. I like a few of his works, but think he is mostly overrated. The museum obviously has a number of his works, but not necessarily his best. It is spread out over 3 floors with the top floor dedicated to those artists who... more

Visited on my recent break in Amsterdam. A beautiful gallery which you should definitely visit. Very unlike any other gallery I have visited, it was fairly crowded during my visit (though didn't have to wait in line for admittance) and it was generally a case of shuffling along looking at Van Gogh's work, which are confined to one floor. Did,... more

You can read 100 reviews about the VanGogh museum. It's great. Make sure you get the audio tour, it's totally worth it. Check on the times that it is open. They don't publicize it very much but it is usually open late one day a week. Perfect time to go because the tourists are elsewhere. more
