Take a step back to 18th C and see how the wealthy merchant van Loon lived! House was originally lived in by an artist. Rooms are as authentic as possible, the garden is structured and the carriage house showcases art work of van Musscher, a dutch Golden Age painter. More

I assume we would never have made it to Van Loon Museum if it wasn't for the Amsterdam museum card. Eventually it turned out to be a really interesting spot with some insight into the history of a family that was involved in founding of the Dutch East Indian Company. More

We were in the area and had a hour or so before we planned to leave the city so we had a wander along the canal to the van Loon house. We weren't there for very long, it is a large town house of a wealthy old family, and as with most of these places, the most interesting part for... More

Admittedly, having the Museumkaart was part of the incentive to stop here; also my spouse wanted an hour to gear up for the rest of the day. It was an interesting look into the wealthy from years ago and how they lived, and interesting that Willem van Loon was a founder of the Dutch East Indian Company. The special van... More

We were free to wander around the house with a floorplan and an English guidesheet. The rooms were well laid out with enough furniture, porcelain and paintings to give the house a real homelike (allbeit grand) feel. The Michiel van Musscher exhibition in the stables and coachhouse at the bottom of the formal garden was a delight. In the portraits... More

Amsterdam has a large number of small museums. Most are worth an hour or two of your time. This one is an old canal-side mansion with a lovely back garden. Period furniture and good English-language labels give a solid idea of life for the wealthy in Amsterdam in the 19th century. Watch for special exhibitions in the coach house. We... More

It took about an hour to visit the house and about 20-30 minutes to visit the coach house exhibition of paintings by Michiel van Musscher which was enhanced by the explanations given by the curator who was very knowledgeable on this painter. The house has a nice atmosphere and takes you back to the past , It wasn't crowded so... More

I am so glad we stopped by this museum- felt like a hidden gem! The home is restored and it gives you a look into the lives of those who benefited from the Golden Age. It puts the items you usually find in a museum into the setting where they were actually found. Definitely worth half an hour to an... More
