Beautiful deconsecrated church, now exhibition space & home of coronations - be sure to visit the 'Friends of Nieuwe Kerk' desk for a friendly and helpful welcome!
Beware though, the exhibition blocks a fair part of the church itself, which was quite disappointing ... especially after visiting Pieterskerk in Leiden!
I almost forgot, you have to check you bag (for...

The Nieuwe Kerk is right in the middle of Amsterdam, actually on Dam Square. The building itself is a very beautiful gothic church, worth visiting on its own account. But it's mostly visited for varying temporary exhibitions. When I went in January 2012 it was an exhibition of Jewish religious artefacts, which was truly fascinating.

Beautiful church (on the inside, outside is rather standard), I had never been there before, but we went to see a special exhibition on Judaism throughout the centuries. It was beautiful, both the church and the exhibition. The church is certainly worth the visit, with beautiful details and glass paintings.
The exhibition was very special to see the Jewish history...

On Dam Square, the church is rather beautiful inside. It stages exhibitions - when we went Passion for Perfection - an exhibition of Islamic Art: caliigraphy, metalware, jewellery, copies of the Qu'ran, ceramics and glassware and brilliant fabrics. In a church. Which was matter of fact and impressive at the same time. Kids got free admission.

If you are into exploring churches then you will love the features in this one. From the outside it does not look that interesting but it has some very ornate features on the inside. It is a very cavernous structure, which unusually has a wooden ceiling. There are intricate wood carvings as well as ‘glitz’. There is an original 16th...
