From Hoorn to Medemblik, both places have a lot to see & visit, you take the steamtram for a 1 hour ride with short stops along the way where old stations like Wognum have been brought back to live in the old style from the 20-30ties of last century. You get great bang for your buck on this one. The Museum Railway based at Hoorn is only half an hour by train from Amsterdam central station and is totally doable even for those on a city break. The museum is a fully operational heritage railway and all it's facilities are open to the public. Staff are more than willing...
