I was on my own so just wandered through the museum. I found some of it boring as I didn't understand what I was looking at as it was not in English. There are three levels, so make sure you do them all. There is both an Egypt and Roman section. I am interested in Egyptology, so it was interesting,... More

After the refurbishment the museum is fallen into the 'experience trap'. What used to be a excellent museum with a great collection is now an average antiquities museum without a clue. That's a pitty. More

Aside from the Egyptian temple in the entrance hall, the rest of the museum was excellent. There was a large range of Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Etruscan and other Near Eastern items over several halls, as well as a display of items from the Netherlands. Our children found the timeline particularly interesting as they had displays of beds and furniture from... More

Artworks from all ages and lots of places. Well layed out with interesting temporary exhibitions. The Egyptian temple in the foyer is almost worth the visit on its own. More

I found the time line of history from earliest human habitation to the present day in the Netherlands to be the most intersting exhibit. It was very well done and held our interest even though we are not Dutch. More

On our visit to leiden we went to see this lovely museum, a nice museum well laid out, good explanations at every object/item and simply a lot to see. We had a nice time, if you love history don't miss this museum. More

Was nice enough. Worth the €3, same ticket gives free entrance for the sister exhibition in a museum in Amsterdam., where they show the male part. The rest of the museum is very interesting. take at least a day for it if you want to see it properly. More

On our second weekend to the Netherlands we went to The Hague and Leiden (the hometown of Rembrandt). We stayed for two night in the Hague and one day to leiden. As we are interested in history we decided to check out the National Museum. From the outside it didn't look that promising, it was just like one of the... More

This museum contains a fantastic collection of mummies and sarcophagi, nicely displayed with explanatory texts in both Dutch and English. In addition to human mummies, there are mummified cats, baboons and even a crocodile. The entrance to the museum is unassuming, but opens into an impressive atrium containing an entire Nubian temple from 25 BC. The Roman, Greek and Etrustan... More
