Well, it's not as politically important as that prison in Paris, or as big, but it's a fun outing for families tired of art and culture. Unlike the Conciergerie, you are taken inside the rooms, including a torture chamber that might be hard to explain to younger children. You'll have to plan ahead to get an English tour, but they... Take the guided tour and see where people did very nasty things to one another whether for political or religious reasons. It's very close to everything else so easy to get to. More

Interesting. Gave insights into history, personalities, political clashes, and various levels of prisoner treatment in this ancient prison. We got a great T-shirt there; unfortunately they no longer have that type of gift shop. More

The building is still in original condition. If you take the guided tour you will get all kinds of interesting information. The guided tour lasts about an hour.In my opinion people with claustrophobia should not visit this building. More

This is an unusual little museum, with paintings hung in a crowded way like they used to in the 19th century. Very historic building. Right in the centre of The Hague and accessible by public transport. More

Worth seeing - just a shame that all of the (one hour) tours are in Dutch, other than one per week on a Sunday. They do provide a short English book, so I could follow my way round, but perhaps more concession to tourists / visitors would be appropriate in such a cosmopolitan city? More

We made the mistake of visiting this museum on a very cold day and its even colder inside the prison than outside. They offer very few English tours and the written guide in English doesn't compensate. It was interesting to see the prison and the torture elements, but I could have missed this attraction. More

The brothers "de Witt" were killed here by a big mob, these brother at the time were the most powerful people in the Dutch republic and were a too big threat for the Dutch King, so ensured that they were killed. Apart from this the prison gate museum gives you the opportunity to have a look into a city gate... More
