The Plantin and Moretus museum is located in a 16th century house and printing and bookbinding workshop. Apart from the style rooms, the museum houses a vast collection of engravings, maps and old books from the 16th to 19th century. They organize a lot of interesting theme exhibitions. More

Antwerp was a great centre for printing and the spread of all types of written culture in Europe. This museum is a UNESCO world heritage site in a beautiful building complex. Apart from the building, printing presses, library and fascinating collections, there are temporary exhibitions. At the moment there is a Mercator exhibition, one of the worlds great mapmakers. More

Just go if you like History. If you are keen to explore the building, if you take pleasure in the historical atmophere it takes you. Not only the architecture of the building is amazing (a palace, no?) but also the incredible amount of artefacts they were able to keep through century/generations. It's like traveling in time and be able to... More

I had expected to spend my one free afternoon in Antwerp shopping but after I read the trip advisor reviews I chose this museum instead. It was an excellent decision. The visitor gets a good feel for the kinds of houses represented in Old Master paintings; it's easy to imagine a family living here. And the collection of paintings is... More

Plantin Moretus was the second printing press in Europe (after Gutenberg). It has a fascinating history and a world class collection of medieval books, both printed and handwritten. In addition, the Museum was once also the house of the Plantin and Moretus families, so there is a large collection of Renaissance art and furniture. The house is beautifully preserved and... More

I've been there several times and I am always very glad I've visited again. The 'house' is extraordinary and reflects our 1st place in the printing world during the past centuries. It is a real gem and I should place it as one off the toplocations to be visited in Antwerp. It reflects our history and our knowledge about printing... More

Outstanding in every respect. If you think you aren't particularly interested in the history of printing, I can almost guarantee that you will be by the end of your visit to this unique site. The place has a wonderful atmosphere and includes a historic family home, a printing-shop continuing the oldest extant presses in the world, a huge array of... More

The Plantin-Moretus museum in the heart of the historic city of Antwerp (Belgium) is a real masterpiece if you like ancient books. It was the very first industrial printing house (mid 1500 - 16th century) in the whole world, founded by Christoffel Plantijn, after Gutenberg invented the printing technique in Germany. This museum is located in the original home and... More
