If you are staying in Brussels it would be unthinkable not to visit one of the best preserved and most important battlefields in Europe. It is easy to get to via the motorway from Brussels but go via the town of Waterloo where there is a good museum at Wellington's headquarters. If one can get beyond the dreadful Lion Mound... More

Took my very active 80 year old father to waterloo as a birthday present. We had a great day and everyone was very helpful and we found the place fascinating. The weather was kind and it had a real buzz about the place. We spent all day there having traveled on the train from Brussels. There are some nice cafe's... More

From Europe to the US and South America, Napoleon's defeat played a major role on the historical events that took place in our developing nations. The museum battlefield is interesting and the views around the "Lion" are excellent. Also a good place to fly your plane over :-) More

Museum is nice and telling facts of the battle. However, if it's rainy and windy day, it might be too cold to visit. Climbing up to the statue is definitely worth; you can stand up there and imagine the battle happening. More

This is 2 minutes from the Hotel 1815 and well worth a visit, the climb up the Couer Du Lion memorial (226 steps) takes a bit of time for us over 55's but the views are well worth the efort More

A visit here can be for an hour or 1/2 a day or more. There's a film (multi-lingual) on the battle of Waterloo, a walk/climb to the 'Butte de Lion', which marks an important spot in the context of the battle. There's a really impressive 360 degree panorama of the battle, and a very good gift shop. Opposite the Main... More

Let's be honest, if you want glitzy entertainment go to Disneyland. Visiting this field was one of my lifetime ambitions since I was a kid and I wasn't disappointed. To stand where the Scots Greys charged the French infantry and to walk where Ney's cavelry charges and the attack by the Old Guard were repulsed. To see the differing views... More

The battlefield site is not easy to find because of poor listings on tourist maps. However, we visited the tourist office in Waterloo town and there was a display there. We purchased two tickets at €36 (the tickets showed they were €12 each so we are not too sure what went wrong there). There are advertised as ‘package’ tickets so... More

Never expected to imagine so many ghosts in a wheat field, but just standing at this sight makes you feel the history that changed the tide of the world. More

Belgium has no natural frontiers around it. Therefore, the country has seen many invasions. The large Waterloo battlefield can be the place for a pleasant walk if the weather is nice. History lovers will like Waterloo whatever the weather as it is interesting to imagine how those two armies fought in open ground. Climbing the steps up to the lion... More
