Ghent is a great city to explore on foot with so much of historic/aesthetic/architectural interes in a small area, and so many other visitors! For respite from the booming boat-tour commentaries by day or the nocturnal herds of hens and stags try a stroll through these old streets, take your pick of the quaint cafes and enjoy time out. The small picturesque streets of the Patershol were once inhabited by the poorer people of the city, but the quarter has upgraded a lot since then, and you can find many restaurants and cafés in this area. More

We went during the day - it is a pleasant enough place to wander round but not much happens in the day. Unremarkable More

This is a wonderful area for walkers who enjoy to walk and take in all the sights. It mainly has many interesting shops and restaurants. The Gravensteen Castle is nearby. The restaurants in this area are very overpriced, although we went to one of the recommendation of Trip Advisor contributors. Patershol is not a very large area. I would say... More

Lots of restaurants, makes me think of 'Quartier Latin' in Paris. But more 'down to earth', and not as expensive More

One of the nicest places to walk in at evenings. The small streets bring on a cosy atmosphere, and it is still one of the gastronomic centres of Ghent. There are also some nice bars - like Rococo (Betty's). In short : nice area to walk through with a rich history. More

The narrow streets are perfect for atmospheric pictures by one day visitors, but let's face the facts. This area has become mainly a restaurant neighbourhood. And not cheap at all. You smell food, kitchens (or the waste container ;-) everywhere. Most other Ghent parts breath less commercialism and will tell visitors more of the actual Ghent. Thinking of the two... More
