We were disappointed to miss the Flanders Field Museum in Ieper, which is currently shut for refurbishment and due to open mid June. However this was recommended to us and it proved to be a worthwhile alternative. We visited on a Sunday morning and were virtually the only people there so it was easy to spend time in each display... More

Because the Flanders Field Museum in Ypres was closed on a Sunday, we travelled to Passchendaele to see the Memorial Museum. Although the town itself is not far from Ypres the signposts were not clearly marked and confusing. However, once you get there it is well worth the trouble. The museum is housed in a chateau built a few years... More

This was meant to be one of the key stops on a days cycle tour of the area, but a puncture and bad map reading meant we arrived later than expected and so had to zip round in order to get to Tyne Cot cemetery and back to Ypres before the bike hire shop closed. The Museum is set in... More

We were there on a quiet day but there was a lot of renovation work being done - presumably in readiness for the summer months when I'm sure there would be a lot more people about. There is a lot of information about the WW1 events in this area - the utter futility of it all just amazes me -... More

This museum is smaller than the nearby In Flanders Fields museum, but has a very extensive collection of uniforms and artifacts from the Great War. The coolest feature of the museum is the recreated trenches that visitors can go through. While we were there the grounds were fairly lightly visited and we had most rooms of the museum to ourselves.... More

This museum is worth visiting but it is quite compact, luckily when we were there we were virtually the only ones, so best to get to it early and try and avoid any crowds, although I suspect it is not that busy unless there is an organised trip. There is a good timeline to the layout but we found some... More

If you book a guide at the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 you will have the best WWI battlefield experience you can imagine. Also the museum itself is the trip more then worth. They are still renovating the old chateau and they are also making a new underground building. Zonnebeke is very near to the Belgium Cost and in the vicinity... More
