I was very impressed with the quality and variety of the exhibits in the Faro City Museum, from ancient Roman artifacts, including a large mosaic, through Moorish sculpture up through recent art (the courtyard was populated with painted elephant sculptures for my visit), it was all fascinating and entertaining. The closest comparison would be the one in Evora. More

I wish there was more of the Moorish influenced history but the paintings by Porfilio and Oliveira and their stories was very interesting. Would also have loved to have seen more of early Algarve. Amazing Roman mosaic floor and building itself is lovely. More

Faro is a nice place to spend a few hours. some nice restaurants, could do a little shopping, go to the beach which is lovely, plenty of historic sights to see. Some of the places hard to find and a lot of the locals have v. little English. More

It was unfortunate I had so little time, because it deserved a much better look; there is a Roman mosaic here, which speaks of a culture of immense sophistication. There is a small but interesting collection of items from the Moorish period. There is a collection of paintings from the Italian school and the Portuguese school, showing difference in style....
