Take a trip to Silves and its castle. Nice scenery from the castle and a lot of history to be told. Check out the program for the castle....there is everything from beer festivals to middle age festivals going on. More

Silves boasts a grand, dramatic castle as its feature attraction, but it also has an impressive museum (built around a medieval well), cathedral, and other local architecture. Silves is one of our favourite inland towns - it has a great atmosphere and the climb up to the castle is well worth the exercise! Try a coffee and pastel de nata in one of the little coffee shops, you will become addicted. More

Well preserved/restored castle in a sleepy town. It is possible to do a complete circuit around the top of the fortifications, but a word of caution as the walkway has no guard rails. There are various exhibits and a photo exhibition in one of the towers. Unfortunately no guide brochure and staff were there just to take the entrance fees.... More

Lovely old town and interesting castle. Storks were nesting on tall chimney pots and street lights. Take a ride on a pleasure boat up the river. More

Really do not bother with this trip. Unless you need to say "We did do some cultural things on holiday". The locals have found a castle ruin and turned it into a tourist venue. The roads leading up the castle would be nice if you like steep cobbles.. covered in dog poo! Everywhere .. The Castle has a grand enterance... More
