On your drive around the coast of Sao Miguel island do drop into the charming Gorreana tea factory. Entry is free and you can wander around the tea plantation which is beautiful in itself and overlooks a spectacular veiw of the sea. This is an unusual sight in Europe- a working tea plantation with production and packing facility. Time stood still here. The tea fields are beautifully laid out, on a hill overlooking the ocean and when you walk down the hill you see the friendly low factory building.
