Coimbra's old cathedral is extremely well-preserved and easily accessible. The most impressive characteristics are the slit windows at the lower levels, designed so that the church could be defended against the Moors, and the unusual presence nearly everywhere within the cathedral of gorgeous tiles--a Moorish influence. This is a really interesting place as there's an eclectic mix of things to see inside from different time periods. Definitely pay the €2 to see the biblical garden & oldest Gothic cloisters in Portugal - this back section is really magic. More
