And a very beautiful World Heritage Site. It is also the site of the tombs of the two Portuguese Unknown Soldiers. The interpretataion and access have been improved since our last visit 2 + years ago. The church itself has free entry and the Monastery has a small charge. Amazing architecture and with much history of Portuguese royalty, it was... More

The monastery was impressive and spectacular from the outside. The inside was best enjoyed in a sunny day when the light entered through the stained-glass windows. The unfinished chapels were special too. Definitely worth a visit! More

There are many guidebooks, art history/architecture books etc. describing the Monestery at Batalha. Suffice it to say here that it is one of the "Big Three" in the area and any visit to Alcobaca and Tomar simply MUST include a visit here to Batalha. More

The Batalha monastery is a beautiful church in the town of Batlha, some 100 Km north of Lisbon. The church is built in a gothic style and its decoration on the outside are beautiful. It is a bit far from Lisbon, so it was better for us to visit it as part of an organized tour. We loved the overall... More

Beautiful well kept gothic monastery with one of the most astonishing cloister in the world. Magical area around the cloister fountain that will give some of the ebst picture oportunities ever! The "imperfect chapels" with access through the back are only called like that as were never finished, but the perfection of the stone work has little rival in the... More

the road from the motorway to batalha is a pain but boy when you turn into the town what a marvellous sight. The Gothic monastery is spectacular both inside and out. Try to go when the sun is shining through the stained glass windows and lights up the huge columns inside with a myriad of colours. More

We visited the Batalha Monastery just two months ago and were in awe of the history, architecture and photographic possibilities. What we did not expect was the high degree of spiritual awareness experienced by many in our group. While this site was originally a late add-on excursion to our vacation plans, memories already count Batalha Monastery as a trip highlight.... More
