When we first got to the Monastery, we were amazed at how big and beautiful it looked on the outside. We went into the free cathedral part and it was quite nice too, but then we paid to go into the rest of the monastery and wished we hadn't! We were there in March, and the only thing we saw... more

I visited the Jeronimos Monastery on 31 August 2006, and was delighted to be there as my last visit had been in 1964 as a schoolgirl. The Monastery was as beautiful as I had remembered it, especially the cloisters which are magnificent. I now have MS, and walk with two walking sticks/canes. The Cloister and Church were beautiful. Wonderful architecture. But there is no information anywhere as you walk along. Then you come to one room with a large signboard with significant dates on it. You are josteling others for the ability to read it, but even still, it was a fractured history at best. Think about church being in service when... more
