The collection of art pieces from the Middle East is out of this world: their quality exceeds what you see in NYC's Metropolitan Museum. There are also some lovely early Renaissance European paintings, and finally I would recommend his collection of 18th century French furniture (Louis XIV-XVI) - he has some beautiful pieces - plus a most unusual collection of... Set in spectacular grounds this Museum is simply great. The collection is full of beautiful pieces from Greece, Islam and Persia, China and Europe. Obviously his taste was "conservative" (esp the paintings which do not include Immpressionists or Post-Impressionists) but there is a great Turner. The exhibitions are well-lit and titled in English. The cafe is very good, the bookshop... More

Easy access from the subway (don't go into the modern art museum by mistake like I did). Pieces are exquisite and representative of all eras from ancient Egypt and Rome thru the 1950's. More

The Gulbenkian was built purposely to house the private collection of Calouste Gulbenkian, which means that the rooms flow well, with pieces housed in an environment that shows them off at their best. Signage (in Portuguese and English) is clear and there are audio guides available for people who want more contextual information, or information in other languages. We spent... More

At Sundays the entrance is free. What I like the most is the Lalique collection. This museum has an enormeous Garden and lake, a Good Cafeteria for a tea and a nice museum shop. In the summer, they have jazz concerts at night. really nice More

A good collection well set out and displayed. Worth the €4 but it's free on Sundays - added bonus. More
