Baixa runs off Rossio Square in the heart of Lisbon and leads you directly to the waterfront. It's one of Europe's great pedestrian walkways and the high fashion shopping area as well. Immerse yourself in the beautiful old world architecture and stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes for a glass of porto to do some people watching.

Baixa, as opposed to the Bairro Alto (which is the upper town), is a district notable for its busyness and commerce, containing various shops and restaurants, and of interest, not just to tourists, but to locals as well.
