Baixa runs off Rossio Square in the heart of Lisbon and leads you directly to the waterfront. It's one of Europe's great pedestrian walkways and the high fashion shopping area as well. Immerse yourself in the beautiful old world architecture and stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes for a glass of porto to do some people watching. More

I visited on a Saturday afternoon and the area was buzzing. I must be too clean-cut to attract the drug dealers, but my friend did receive an offer. There were lots of shops and quite a few restaurants though I didn't stop at any. My (local) friend was kind enough to point out which restaurants were overpriced tourists traps. Baixa... More

We did not witness any homeless people or drug dealers as other reviewers had mentioned. We had wonderful pastries from the Evora bakery located on the Rua Augusta. There were... More

Baixa has tons of shops and the pedestrian street rua augusta. there is a side street with restaurants that are open in the afternoon when many portuguese restaurants close. So that helps if you get peckish in the afternoon or early evening. the elevator there is cool and praca do comercia and the river are cool to check out. there... More

Baixa, as opposed to the Bairro Alto (which is the upper town), is a district notable for its busyness and commerce, containing various shops and restaurants, and of interest, not just to tourists, but to locals as well. More
