After visit Castelo de Sao Jorge , go down walking through Alfama and try to find a restaurant called Lautasco and ask for a bottle of wine and "sardinhas".

i loved the winding streets with their olden somewhat gothic architecture. really atmospheric perhaps just a bit too much at night when it can be a little scarey, unless you know where you are.

Alfama is an excellent quarter to take pictures with the steep streets, flee markets, churches and the tram 28 winding itself through all this. Take good shoes though.

Typical and interesting atmosphere which you feel in Alfama. As some travellers already advised you can take the cable car,Tram 28E or the Tram 12E (similar route) and go down at different stops to have a view of the inside of Alfama or just walk up to Mirador to have a great overview of the city. lots of typical roads...

Lovely winding cobbled streets, old houses, many with beautiful azulejos tiles, great views over the city and estuary from the various viewpoints. Be careful of pickpockets operating in the small old trams, however!
