Alfama is the birthplace of Fado music that began in the 1830's. Sad love songs & the Portugese version of the blues. It also one part of the city that wasn't destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. We took Tram 28 to Alfama & enjoyed walking around and seeing the Fado clubs. We came back at night & enjoyed hereing... more

We've walked up through the wonderful narrow streets of this old part of town and then walked back down after reaching the St. George castle on top. We've ridden up on tram #28 and again back down. We've ridden up and walked back down. That was our favorite way. You can see what you'd like to look at more closely... more

I really loved walking up towards the top the more higher we got the better the veiw we had of Lisbon! the little alleys that had doors to small little homes looked so cute. The pavement was like the ones you would imagine from old English roads and alleys. Definately a good and romantic walk. Would reccomend to all. more
