On the side of the hill beneath the Castelo de Sao Jorge lie the narrow winding streets of the Alfama, the oldest part of Lisbon. It's an interesting and atmospheric walk, but don't go there on your own after dark. More

After visit Castelo de Sao Jorge , go down walking through Alfama and try to find a restaurant called Lautasco and ask for a bottle of wine and "sardinhas". More

i loved the winding streets with their olden somewhat gothic architecture. really atmospheric perhaps just a bit too much at night when it can be a little scarey, unless you know where you are. More

Alfama is an excellent quarter to take pictures with the steep streets, flee markets, churches and the tram 28 winding itself through all this. Take good shoes though. More

Typical and interesting atmosphere which you feel in Alfama. As some travellers already advised you can take the cable car,Tram 28E or the Tram 12E (similar route) and go down at different stops to have a view of the inside of Alfama or just walk up to Mirador to have a great overview of the city. lots of typical roads... Take a walk in this pittoresque and the oldest neighborhood and you'll feel like traveling back in time. Start at Portas do Sol Viewpoint and go down - river direction - and you'll find some breath taking views of this Lisbon hill. Lovely winding cobbled streets, old houses, many with beautiful azulejos tiles, great views over the city and estuary from the various viewpoints. Be careful of pickpockets operating in the small old trams, however! More
