If you only have time or energy for one museum in Lisbon, the MNAA is the one to see. It combines the best examples of fine and decorative arts of the other museums along with a magnificent collection of paintings from Heironymos Bosch's surreal Temptation of St. Anthony to Zurbaran's sublime Apostles. Check out the antics of the sailors in... More

A most traditional museum, with a collection that covers from medieval to XIX century art and decoration. The Portuguese painting is of great interest, since it is not that easy to find in other countries. The European paiting rooms are one of the those places to return to, due to the high quality of the collection (Saint Augustine, by Piero;... More

The museum boasts a superb collection. Works from : Nuno Gonçalves, Hieronymus Bosch, Albrecht Dürer, Andrea della Robbia, Zurburan, Holbein, Cranach, Old Flemish masters, ... Some excellent pieces of goldsmithing from the former monastery of Belém and other important convents. A nice collection of old furniture. This is the largest Portuguese Museum. A lot of art available for all tastes from the middle ages to the early 19th century. The place to go to see old Portuguese Masters. Some great world class masterpieces that would make the trip worth it on its own - like Hieronymus Bosh's fabulous tempations of st Anthony, or Dürer's st Jerome.... More
