It´s a romantic place and full of history. You can take a train straight from Lisbon. In the summer is one of the best places to go, near Lisbon, because it usually has a nice micro climate. You have hotels in the villa, restaurants and coffe shops. Must try one of the famous "queijadas" and "travesseiros" (two types of pastery)... More

Sintra has a micro climate so weather can be a problem with gusts of cold winds even in May. Palace itself was so so. Sintra Town is a nice place to meander . More

We took the train to Sintra and then a coach took us round the mountain to visit the various sites, the last one being the Palace which used to be the king and queen of Portugal's residence. This was worth the visit with all the authentic decor and furniture. This was a good day out. More

We took train(cheap and efficient) from Lisbon which actually run very often and it takes you something like 30 minutes to get there. The place is a wonder. It is great for walking and wondering around. Even to spend a romantic weekend. We climbed up to the palaces the hard way through the woods path - how wonderful...it took us... More

We rented a car in Lisbon and drove out to Sintra to see this beautiful town with 2 of the most majestic and beautiful palaces. You can also reach Sintra by bus, a bit of a hassle, or pay for a guide that you can contact online or at any number of kiosks in central Lisbon. This was a delightful... More

National Palace of Sintra was a bit of dissapointing. More than a palace, it is more like a summer house. It is very modest in ever aspect. The most interesting thing was seeing the huge chimneys in the kitchen, which you can see kilometers away! It may not be the only reason to visit Sintra, but if you are there,... More

This takes about an hour to get to from Rossio...it's absolutely gorgeous. There's no real signs or directions when you get out of the train...but come out of the station...take a left and walk to the historic town centre (about 10 minutes)...take a taxi for 5 euros to the top of the mountain - Do the palace first, then the... Spend an hour or two wondering thru this well preserved mountain top palace. Spectacular views together with a complete history of the palace and it's inhabitants. Take the train from Rossio to the town and then bus 434 up to the palace. Very eady to do and cheap. Train and palace offer senior discounts More
