I'm just glad I didn't get a heart-attack walking up to this place! It is a bit of a steep hike. I think there's transport up but I thought it would be OK to walk & save a couple euros. My wife is a little younger than me and in good shape. She forgets I spend all my time in... more

We had a car and drove to the palace, parked outside the gardens. We walked through the beautiful grounds towards the top of the park, and then to the palace- amazing views! Really gorgeous place! http://www.parquesdesintra.pt/en/ more

We recently went to the Palace from Lisbon. We took the train from the station at Rossio/Restoradores metro stop to SIntra. Once in Sintra, you can take the bus #434 (3 euros per person) from the outside of the train station to Pena (the bus is a sightseeing bus that stops at several good locations). The prices into Pena were... more

A friend of ours had traveled to Lisbon and told us to take a day-trip to Sintra, while we were in Lisbon for 6 days. We learned late in our trip that many tour bus guides drive to Sintra and along the Estoril coast. Though we were tempted, we decided to take the local train by ourselves out to Sintra... more

I highly recommend buying the sight-seeing pass for 3.50 euro. This will take you to all the tourist spots with in Sintra. I walked from the town center to the palace and it took about 1 hour, but I am young and in relatively good shape. However, when I got there I took the trolley to the palace and back... more

The road up there is surprisingly beautiful through lush and mountaneous areas - have your camera ready ! Take a bus from the Sintra train station; walking will take a very long time. The palace itself has a pleasantly situated restaurant with a view, some nice interiors and a very nice walk with views down to the sea if you... more
