The seaward side of this road has a collection of restaurants and views over the sea and harbour. It is a pleasnt area for a stroll, but is marred by the traffic noise. More

Although we enjoyed walking here the first day, the bus fumes, traffic, noise, etc. made the promenade overlooking the water a much more enjoyable walk. There are numerous restaurants long this boulevard, however, and it is definitely worth a look. More

We never tired of visiting this avenue - the main street of Funchal. Everywhere was adorned with Christmas lights and a street market selling local produce and food was a delight.
