The gardens are so extensive that you will need some nourishment. There are assorted sandwiches, drinks some fruit and ice cream. I could skip the "free" glass of Madeira that comes with the entrance ticket, but the stop was pleasant and held us through the rest of the gardens. More

If you are travelling by cable car to this garden, it is directly in front of you after getting off. From the outside and pictures scattered around the railing the gardens look amazing, however it was the complete opposite once entering. The gardens were not looked after compared to the flowers gardens and beds in Funchal, half of the water... More

It was approaching lunchtime when we entered the gardens so I asked the assistant at the door if there was anywhere to get food and she said there was a cafe with sandwiches etc. Well, we got to the cafe at 1pm and they had rolls with cheese and ham, also ham and cheese, also croissants with cheese and ham... After reading other reviews I was cautious about the cost of E10 per person as was concerned about access, however, we were with friends one of whom was using two sticks and they managed very well going down and used the transport to get back. Probably think E10 was a little expensive, but overall I really enjoyed the gardens as... More

there is a nice parking lot where you easily find a place for your car. From there an elevator brings you to the garden and the cable car. There is also a nice terrace for food, beverage and a stunning view over the city. More

This is an interesting garden to visit but dont have expectations of a riot of colour or you will be disappointed. The garden is set on a steep hillside and the paths can be slippery under foliage and would be difficult to negotiate on the uphill return for anyone with mobility difficulties although a buggy ride can be purchased. The... More

Built over many levels in a bit of a gully the gardens are nice but seem a bit unkept to us (not cleverly "wild", just unkept) More

We went there in mid April not knowing much about the garden or what to expect but what a really great place. We started from the top entrance - having taken the cable car - and the walk into and down one side of the garden was nice but nothing special. Its when we turned round and walked up the... More
