This attraction is a real tourist trap. I wish I had read some of the other reviews before I paid 25 euros for the Toboggan Rip-Off. What a scam! The toboggan takes you only half way down the hill and leaves you off in the middle of nowhere. Taxi drivers are more than willing to take you the rest of... more
What can I say. The worst scam I have come across. Research the cost of this well before you try it. I know you are on holiday and everyone tends to allow for this type of thing but that does not mean you have to spend money on this rubbish. You can get two quite pleasant meals for the cost... more
Hemingway called this toboggan run the most 'exhilarating experience of his life'. Unfortunately the road surface has changed since then and this highly over rated tourist trap is tame to say the least. Despite being aware of this, we were on holiday and had a go anyway, and we quite enjoyed the trip. To get there we took the cable... more

if you visit Monte then this ride is almost compulsory. Yes it is pricey, but heyho you may as well - you're on holiday. If you ever have a wayward trolley in the supermarket, get in and take it down a hill - this is what the toboggans are like. We didn't find it scary - just a bit of... more
We did this as an add-on to a tour offered by our hotel. It was slightly scary careening down the mountain, but very fun. Our pair of drivers was skilled, unfortunately the pair in front of us were going a bit slowly. I enjoyed seeing their wooden shoes smoke (and smelling the burning wood) as they used the soles as... more
It's something you have to do when visiting Funchal, I really enjoyed the experience and you will to. The ride only takes you half way down the hill but there's a taxi waiting there to take your hard earned cash, they're a right con - 12 euro's per taxi. If you feel up to it walk the rest of the... more
