Alongside the River Duoro in Porto is where you'll find welcoming restaurants with good food and, normally excellent service. The views across the river, the bustle of a quayside, boat trips across, up and down the River make for a pleasurable afternoon/evening. From the river you can take the funicular railway up into the historic part of Porto. More

The railway station with fantastic tiles telling you the history of the Douro river and the realationship with the production of Port wine. Great local restaurant on the North side of the river (Follow signs to Quinta do Crasto) More

We stayed in Guest House Duoro right on the Duoro and were able to watch the river traffic as well as people walking, shopping and eating along the river in Riberia. It was very chilly up on deck of the boat so we had to spend quite a bit of the journey below . After a while we found the scenery very much of a muchness. Glad we only did the day trip. More
