We are glad we saw one of historys amazing relics but were disappointed that not enough is being reinvested into this amazing site. There were thousands of people crawling all over the place, tour guides everywhere, they are obviously making a fortune from tourists but not enough being reinvested into the facilities. No guard rails anywhere, holes in the ground that... more

I can't disagree that the Acropolis is a stunning site. Unfortunately it's covered almost completely in scaffolding and cranes. There's barely an angle free to photograph, especially with the Parthenon. Could it not have been restored a bit at a time? Apart from this I would love to see an audioguide or more extensive historical information. We tried to hire... more

It's really really really really hot as there is very little shade (we were not there in the height of summer). The parthanon was covered in scaffolding so getting photos was difficult. The staff kept telling us off for walking on the wrong parts, we left ealy in the end. It's quite expensive too, about £20 each. more

Long uphill walk. Recommended to undertake this later in the day as the sun can be really strong. Once atop the hill, the excavation site is quite amazing. more

Quite disappointed with the Acropolis given the fact that virtually every building atop the acropolis is covered by scaffolding. There's also a huge crane in the middle of the Parthenon. It felt like a construction site. Had I known, I would have deferred this trip until they were done with reconstruction. Ephesus, on the other hand, was absolutely breathtaking. more

It was fascinating to see the Acropolis up close although there was construction equipment in view and the crowds were terrible. Be prepared to be in direct sun without shade for long periods and immersed in huge crowds. I would recommend seeing it up close, but there are great views throughout the city since it sits so high above Athens. more

We had a day trip to Athens whilst on a tour and were keen to see the Acropolis regardless of the steps. In fact the steps were not too bad and the monuments at the top well worth the energetic walk. I will not go on about the individual buildings as others have already described them far better than I... more

We went to Acropolis an Parthenon on a walking tour. The tour went on for a little too long, but was probably worth the money. The Acropolis was a little crowded but there was still plenty of room to admire the ruins and take pictures. I won't forget this experience. Don't forget to walk down to the hill where Paul... more

There is a reason this place is on most people's bucket list! That also means it's very crowded. Our Costa Concordia cruise ship stopped in Athens during February 2008. We were lucky to get a good taxi driver to take us around the city and this was our first stop. Yes, even on a cold, drizzly day in winter, there... more

It doesn't happen often, but this summer, the night of the eclipse of the moon, the Acropolis was open at night and also with free entrance. The sight was amazing. The whole Athens around you. There was a bit of traffic, many people around, but until you want to go out (on the way back was very crowded) , i... more
