This is a disappointingly small gallery. On top of that, the first floor was closed. The artists on display did not match those advertised in guide books.
However, there were some nice pieces and it was good to see the work of some Greek artists I had never heard of.
6.5 euros entrance charge is a bit steep

This is a beautiful gallery. It's not as big as some galleries abroad (about 3 floors) but it has some beautiful paintings that have been very influential in Greek culture (Greek kids will recognize many of them from their school books!).

Not on the typical tourist path, but nowadays easily accessible via the beautiful modern subway (Evangalismos station), the National Gallery is a wonderful treat. The permanent collection is outstanding, one El Greco in particular is breathtaking. We were fortunate to see a Picasso traveling exhibit while we were there.
