When I read that there was a Jewish Museum I wanted to find it to learn something about the history of Greek Jews. The museum is small but nice and worth popping into since it's right in the downtown core. more

Based on a recommendation from a local Athens professional tour guide we found our way to the Jewish Museum in Central Athens. I would just like to add a couple things to the previous review. Along with this being a gem of a museum, as the previous poster mentioned, it is also quite convenient to travelers - it's just a few short blocks from the main Plaka District. This is a fascinating little museum about the decimated Jewish communities of Greece. Apparently there were very large Jewish communities in Greece that went back to ancient times. 95% of the Jewish population was killed in the Holocaust so now there are hardly any Greek Jews left in Greece. Hitler succeeded in Greece of relegating the Jews to a museum.... more
