We got completely lost on the way up to Agios Stefanos, and got there almost an hour late. But turned out it's completely worth it. They showed us the night sky, a number of nebulae and a number of stars that are in gorgeous colors. Amazing way to end my first day in Crete. Chantel and Filip are the friendliest... More

We visited Sasteria in the late evening. In daytime sun observation is possible, in the evenings and nights you can see the night sky. They have several telescopes and give very good explanations. If you go to the village in the early evening: eat in one of the kafenions and have an ouzo too. Wonderful foods and drinks against prices... More

We visited Chantal and Filip for 3 days in January. We have two children, ages 9 and 12, and we all would have stayed in Agios Stefanos much longer if it would have been possible. We enjoyed the village, the art lessons, the star gazing (and sun observation), the walk down the gorge to Makrygialos - and Chantal and Filip... More

We booked this after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. It was a great night for us and the kids and saw many planets, the moon, star clusters, clouds, formations. We saw Saturn, which we weren't expecting, which was a big bonus as I'd told the kids that we wouldn't be able to see it. Jupiter was amazing ! Definitely worth... More

Under a clear, moonless sky, Filip and Chantal welcomed us into their home and garden observatory, where we were able to observe many celestial wonders - in particular, we saw four of Jupiter's moons silhouetted against the planet and were able to track them as they moved throughout the evening. The telescopes and other pieces of equipment were amazing in... More

Filip and Chantal made us feel at home when we arrived and Filip even played his Bouzouki for us (see pictures for Bouzouki). We arrived late in the afternoon so we saw the planets and the moon that night and Susan enjoyed her art lesson with Chantal the next morning. It depends on what time of year you view the... More

Filip and Chantal are true hospitalitarians, and they met and exceeded every single one of our expectations, which, for Greece, was rare, service-wise. We were invited into their home, shared wine and food with them, watched the starts, went on a long hike, went to dinner, and they even gave us some seeds out of their garden! An absolutely wonderful... More

Filip and Chantel were wonderful hosts when we visited them in January. When we arrived, it was raining, and we thought we'd lose our chance to use the observatory. Filip and Chantel took us into their home, where we chatted for hours, and then found that the skies were clearing rapidly. We spent the next 2 hours, until the clouds... More

Thanks to Chantal and Filip from Sasteria we, the amateur astronomers in Belgium, can get a unique view of the heavens above. Not only because of the great weather in Crete, but mostly thanks to the good contacts with these two wonderfull people. Who inspire us to visit this island... below the stars. We went to Sasteria in 2009 for a week. We rented a small apartment in the main village to enjoy the atmosphere of a Greek village perched in the mountains. In the morning we took drawing lessons with Chantal, discovering around Agios-Stefanos and in the evening we looked at the stars above us, guide by Filip with a telescope of... More
