We could see quite a lot of it even though the locals were on one of their many one day national strikes. Great views from the top - worth the trouble.

Liked the area and views. We went in spring so it was really lush and green with loads of wildflowers. The ruins were interesting but would have liked more information about what I was seeing. It's worth going if you like history (or even a pleasant walk in the country) but don't expect a polished exhibit with loads of information and facilities.Aptera is...

You have to get to Aptera well before 15.00 when the site closes. It's a big site with intersting ruins including some very large and intact cisterns, a recently excavated amphitheatre, a vill and the town gates (one the way up) to see. Superb spring flowers at this extensive ancient site

The outstanding thing about this site sounds dull but is quite awesome - the vast Roman cisterns like underground caverns. We went early in April and the whole site was awash with wildflowers up to your chest.

A well preserved site where, very recently a small amphitheater has been excavated....

Amazing site which bring history very close, archeologists were excavating while we were there, Roman columns lay where they fell following an earthquake 2000years ago. Could do with improved signage for novices like me, check out the amphitheater. Will take years to excavate this huge site but how fantastic it will be and what unknown treasures will they unearth along...
