Spinalonga is a truly historic & emotive place. It is interesting & moving in equal parts. There is such a long history of this island being used as a fortress, refuge & prison, then latterly as a leper colony. Boats go from Plaka from 9am & it's only a 5 minute journey - cost is E9 this year. Plus E2... More

It was quite amazing to see how the people banished to this island made it their own little community More

Venetian fortress used by Ottomans too. Most known as the place of the lepers exile till late 50's. the whole area is amazing. Jem of the planet. enjoy the boat trip to the island and a nice fish lunch after the trip :-) More

Interesting archaeology from Venetians and Turks and those buildings added when the island was used as a leper colony. A lot of information about early history on display but not much about the history whilst it served as a leper colony which is what most visitors are probably more interested in. More

Pleasant trip with 15 min boat journey from Elounda harbour (EUR 10). Very interesting history as fortification and leaper colony but not that much to see when there. More

Could be quite crowded with all the different boat tours but we went off on our own and didnt do a guided tour which we found much nicer. They say you only have an hour on the island but we didnt feel that was enough and asked if we could stay longer which was no problem. Really atmospheric and interesting,... More

The good things about this trip were the history of the leper colony,( It helps if you had read 'The Island') and the atmospheric ruins that are to be found on Spinalonga. Also, our guide was very knowledgeable and did her job well. I also enjoyed the artistic displays The only reason the trip did not get a good review... More

Every year we visit Crete,we always have a trip to Spinalonga. It costs approximately 10 euros, but the boat ride alone is worth that. The island is seeped in history, but it is most famous as a leper colony in the last century. You feel the atmosphere as soon as you disembark.A DO NOT MISS experience.
