Short, sweet and very informative. A story board for the history of Crete and one whole room for WW II history. Great for teens with short attention spans.

This place takes a little finding, but is well worth the effort. It's so easy to think only of Knossos and the Minoans here on Crete, but there is a great deal more to the history than this - Venetians, Ottoman Empire and Germans to name but three. Go - you'll not be disappointed!

This is another beautifully laid out museum which gives a real insight into the life and history of the area. It massively enriched our stay. And even here, the cretan welcome was lovely. We were made to feel like honoured guests, and when it sadly came to closing time, we were individually approached with a gentle explanation that it was...

This museum is easy to overlook as it does not get the fame and recognition of the Archeological Museum, which is a shame since it is a fantastic little museum covering the history and artifacts of the city history especially focusing on the byzantine and following eras. Fantastic exhibition items; do not m iss this museum..

We'd read about this museum in the guide books and we were all really looked forward to visiting this place. However when me, my wife and 2 children (aged 4 & 8) arrived, my boys were met with dirty looks from man sitting in reception. We paid our entrance fee and walked around in to the first room which contained...

We are sorry to read that supervision by guards in the Historical Museum of Crete rooms, which contain fragile exhibits and installations, was perceived as demeaning surveillance and evidence of distrust towards children.
The Historical Museum of Crete is well known for welcoming children. The exhibitions are lively and user-friendly, and we make every effort to encourage children to come...

Situated on the sea front about 10 minutes walk from the harbour wall this museum was an unexpected treat. The exhibits are all very carefully labelled in Greek and English. The museum is divided into a number of rooms dedicated to different aspects of Greek culture as well as the different periods. I particularly enjoyed the section on the top...

One of the best museums I have ever visited. Only small but what you get to see is terrific, some of the gold items are quite exquisite.
Considering the age of many of the items on show, they are so well preserved and with workmanship that I would not have believed possible.
Everything is well displayed with many exhibits in...

Historical museum of Crete was a pleasant surprise for me. It represent history of Crete from Byzantian times to 2. World war.
Visitor start's its visit in rooms in ground floor where are displayed model of Heraklion city and maps of Crete island. In next two floors you can see artefacts from whole Crete history (Byzantian era, Greek independence war,...
