The water is clear and the beach clean.
It's a long beach, so enough space, but hotels claim their part of it. If you don't want to pay for a chair or a parasol, you need to walk quite a distance.

I took the bus from my hotel to Ammoudara and it was nice. During the day it was quiet but the bus tends to drop you off with access to the beach. If you aren't staying at one of the beach hotels or resorts, make sure to bring beach towels or your own chairs since the sand is hot (...

Ammoudara is one of the most long beaches I have visited. I love the waves of the beach and it is the only beach in Heraklion where you can surf.

Ammoudara consists of mainly one main street which leads past the large Stadium and straight into Heraklion. There are loads of touristy shops, and all kinds of bars/restaurants.
